I think I can, I think I can, said the little blue train. It’s kinda how I feel at the moment – so close to being up to date with posting my #100happydays photos… yippee!
Day 80. It’s grainy, out of focus and beeeeautiful. I love that Edie, bless her cotton picking socks, is snap happy with my phone. I leave it lying about all the time and Edie picks it up, opens up the camera and away she goes – I am quite certain she holds her finger on the shutter button as she goes about her day. Sometimes she will take over 500 images – and it makes me laugh. If I don’t check my camera roll regularly, I don’t even know they are there – it’s a lovely surprise when I stumble across them.
Edie calls my Grandma ‘Great Big Grandma’, you know as in ‘it’s a great big truck/hill/etc – makes me giggle, as Grandma is anything but, she must be 5 foot if she’s lucky. Max, when he was about Edie’s age, used to call her ‘Grandma Accident’, her surname is Atkinson, so close enough for a 4 year old ;-). Grandma turned 89 earlier in the year and she is awesome, still smokes, drinks coffee, does all her own gardening and last month, got a new car! Go Granny, love you senseless xxx.
Day 82. And guess what? After a major clean, it makes awesome coffee – yay me! I am a wee bit sorry to all the coffee drinkers that had coffee from this machine before it came to live with me – filthy (said with shrill voice, rising sharply at the end).
Day 83. Oh, you must think we are the biggest bogans! Style doesn’t rate very high with Yap – in his defence it was seriously wet, muddy and cold. We are in the workshop and having a ball. Best coffee shop around xxx.
A few weeks ago (Day 63), I went to a Clearing Sale. This tallboy followed me home. I simply A.D.O.R.E. it.
Day 85. It really was bitterly, bitterly cold. I lit the fire very early in the lounge room and had the heating on in the rest of the house, Max though, he had a real job on a real machine. No longer did he have to use the ride-on mower – major promotion to the slasher behind the Johnny. To say he was chuffed is a major understatement. I love this kid, he is the oldest 13 year old ever – he lives to operate big machinery and do meaningful work. Freaky.
A day in the life of Edie – a little baking in the morning, a quick tizzy up for high tea in the afternoon and enjoying the fruits of her labour (bread and soup – in fine china of course) for dinner.
Day 86. This kid can sense when I am about to make bread – it’s uncanny. Once she has an inkling that bread-making is on the cards, she will not be persuaded other-wise, no siree. I’m used to the gargantuan mess now – who knew just how far a whiff of flour could travel. Oh well, she has a tonne of fun and the mess cleans up.
The lippy on the other hand, is an entirely different matter. Thankfully, this time, it was just on her face. You know that moment when you realise one of the kids has been far too quiet for far too long… and wonder what on earth they are up to?
Lately, with Edie, it has been doing ‘grown-up’ things, the other day, she was doing the washing for me – bless her, she had climbed up on a stool, onto the washing machine and opened the very high over-head cupboards and got the powder and fabric softener down. And that was when the trouble began. Crap everywhere!!! Powder and softener over mountains of clothes and towels (alas they were previously clean and folded) and up and down the laundry and rooms either side. I was speechless. The size and scope of her endeavour rendered me mute. I couldn’t react, I was spectacularly dumbfounded. When I finally regained consciousness, we had one of those little talks and then I sent them outside to play while I cleaned up.
Today however, I found myself barricaded out of my bedroom – this did not bode well… pushing stuff out of the way, I made it into my room, to find a very bashful Edie, unable to lift her head to look at me, hmm, I wonder why… at least she picked a pretty colour.
I love this photo – the exuberance is such joy to watch.
And that is all folks. I am now up to date!! Yay.
See you next week for more #100happydays.
